My baby turned one in April, so of course, I had to do a cake smash. I couldn’t resist! But, because of the ways I usually like to do things – I kept it very minimal with the birthday cake smash photos.
First, I got this outfit from Etsy and it had great reviews and photos of other 12-month-olds in it. We also are using it in family photos so a double whammy here. You can find this shop on Etsy to see the outfit. It’s adorbale and not too girly, which can happen sometimes with rompers (side note: the outfit came off pretty quickly when 1. my baby wasn’t enjoying getting photos alone in any outfit…no smiles even with my husband trying to get him to smile behind the camera and 2. I didn’t want the outfit to get dirty despite having Oxiclean spray on hand – another minimalist in me).
Second, my friend Kristen is an amazing cake baker and decorator in Utah. I hired her to do a simple cake for Calvin’s cake smash (hire her for all your needs by just DMing her on IG!) It was also the most delicious cake I’ve ever had. And I’ve tried many cakes in my day. We were more than satisfied and I’d hire her in a heartbeat again!
Third, I grabbed a white backdrop and placed it in front of a window in our home. BOOM. Simple 1st birthday cake smash complete. Here’s what came of it!
