I started my photography business back in 2018 after graduating from my undergraduate degree. I was so excited to finally launch what had been my dream since my childhood. Yes, I was the queen of photographing every family trip. I was known as the unofficial second photographer at family weddings because I’d follow the main photographer around snapping photos of the couple throughout the day.
Starting a photography business was a goal I had written down in 2015 but was always a little too doubtful of myself to start until I graduated. It finally became an “if not now, when?” kind of situation.
Leading into the beginning of my second year of business, I consistently have inquiries and book brides. A year ago I would’ve thought that was impossible.
However, I reached a point where I didn’t know what else to do to continue booking clients. Especially my dream clients. I had exhausted all of my free resources (from people like Jenna Kutcher). I started following Kylee’s journey on Instagram and loved how she motivated other photographers and provided affordable education.
My friend, Ashlyn, reached out to me one day and suggested I sign up for a membership Kylee was offering for a good deal. She said that the videos in the membership had proved incredibly valuable to her already. Ashlyn told me to try it and if I didn’t see results to cancel. I was hesitant to pay for anything because I love learning on my own. But, I signed up for the Our Photog Blog membership. And since then my business hasn’t been the same and I’m on month 3!
Here’s 2 ways I’ve upped my business game immensely from the OPB membership.
CONSISTENT BLOGGING
I thought Instagram was the way to book all of my clients. But, not anymore. Something Kylee taught me right off the bat was that blogging is not dead! In fact, it’s one of the most real ways to get your dream clients. If people find you organically from Google or Pinterest, land on your website and spend time on your blog, the likelihood of them converting increases drastically.
I used to blog so inconsistently. It was hard to think of content and take time to sit down and pump out a 300+ word post. But, Kylee shows how she schedules when and what to blog in her calendar. She encourages us to blog 3x/week! It seems daunting but she gives you ideas on what to blog about! You will have blog posts for days if you put in the time. Blogging isn’t quick, either. You must consistently post new content to see results.
Blogging will also provide you with quality content to send out through emails to your clients or give you caption ideas for Instagram. I now put a pinnable image at the bottom of my blog posts and once my blog post is live I pin that image to Pinterest. My monthly Pinterest views is over 6.5K so far with the tips from OPB membership and because I have been pinning more from my blog. Plus, my blog is filling up with useful, relevant content for my ideal clients.
REUSE & RECYCLE
You heard it right. The biggest lesson I’ve learned from Kylee Ann’s OBP membership is that we are all busy people and time is so limited. We do not have enough hours in the day to get everything done. I work full-time and hold multiple callings in my church in addition to running a photography business and having a personal life.
I used to write a blog post and then pin photos from that to Pinterest. Then, I’d create a new title & description for that specific pin. Then, I’d prep a photo on Instagram and come up with a new caption for that post. I would do that over and over again. And completely exhaust myself.
Kylee’s membership taught me to make my time more efficient and optimize on the things I’m already doing by reusing content. When I create a blog post, I have just created multiple Instagram captions from that post and have content to pin, too. I can just copy and paste the words to the post. Yes, I now recycle everything!
Reusing content I’ve created saves my brain space for more valuable activities. My biggest takeaway: reuse all of the content you create and recycle it to your emails, your social posts, your blogs, and so on. Don’t exhaust yourself! Reuse and recycle.
