Maureen & Neil wanted to capture their engagements on a plane (and around it after landing at a secluded island) – let’s stop there and think about how cool that is. Who does this?!
They wanted photos with each other in front of Neil’s plane in an area no one else goes to for engagement photos. This antique airplane is owned by Neil since he’s a commercial pilot and he uses the plane for his business called “Fly Over Utah.” Tourists pay to fly with him all over Utah’s unique landscapes. He’s also a “skydiving and paragliding instructor, and an Air Force Special Operations veteran” (pulled directly from his Airbnb Experience page!).
When I found out that we were going to do their engagements with Neil’s plane…I WAS STOKED! I couldn’t believe I was getting an incredibly unique experience like this as a photographer, only over a years into her photography career.
This plane also takes these two on various adventures and has a lot of significance for them!
We flew out from a small airport and went over the Salt Lake Valley and the Great Salt Lake towards Antelope Island for about 30 minutes. We landed right on top of the weeds (there was no asphalt or runway to land on – it was very adventurous!) in a very secluded area called Fremont Island.
The coolest part was that it was completely secluded. Only buffalos and antelope were insight on this island. There were no other people because we landed in an area no one else can access easily.
There we shot for about an hour until the sun began to set and we headed back home on the plane.
This was such an amazing and incomparable experience to anything else I’ve ever done that I can’t help but share it! I actually have shared these photos on my “Best Of” portfolio page a lot because they are so unique!
