Here we go, again! Another blog post about the best locations for photos in Utah. This time I’m featuring something for the brides or the wedding photographers out there reading this!
I am a HUGE fan of creating blog posts about location ideas for other creatives and clients in the area.
Why, you ask?
Because I know how hard it’s been for myself to find consistently beautiful locations. Especially if you are short on time or can’t dedicate a day to location hunting.
For all of the photographers out there I want you to know that I am an open book. No location should be kept secret. We need to bond over finding stellar locations and share those with others. We are a community! Not a competition.
1. am not afraid of someone stealing my location because of 3 reasons:The location isn’t even my property to begin with
2. Every photo taken at the location will look different. Every single one. My photos will look totally different than your photos – regardless of the spot.
3. The location doesn’t make me a good or bad photographer. I make myself a good photographer. And you make yourself a good photographer. My brand and style are made up of my personality and no one can take that from me…or YOU!
So, I hope this blog post helps you. I hope you are able to travel to these locations throughout the state of Utah for whatever type of shoot you want to do. (I’ve found that for bridals these areas are stunning.) I hope that your photos turn out amazing and that these locations help you shine as a photographer.
Little Sahara
Little Sahara Recreation Area, Sand Mount Rd, Nephi, UT 84648
Follow these directions to the Visitor’s Center.
From my understanding, you don’t need to pay unless you are camping or staying overnight.
Drive into the park and take a right when you see the black dumpsters on the left side of the road. Then, follow the road until it ends. You’ll run into the sand dunes and can park anywhere on the road that runs along the sand. You will have endless miles of territory to cover for your shoot.
Tunnel Springs Park
1080 Eaglepointe Dr, North Salt Lake, UT 84054
This is a steep climb up a long hill in a residential area in North Salt Lake.
When you reach the front of the entrance of Tunnel Springs Park head straight back (veer left just a bit) on the dirt road.
Park in the dirt parking lot and walk back down the asphalt road until you reach the trees, the long grass, or the rolling hills and fields.
Utah State Capitol
Utah State Capitol Building, 350 N State St, Salt Lake City, UT 84103
It’s free to shoot here, too! Just be cautious of events going on inside and outside (especially in the summer). Check their events calendar here.
If there are no major events, you are free to wander everywhere! There are columns and stairs in the front, trees and a pathway along each side, and a garden area in the back.
Dead Horse Point
UT-313, Moab, UT 84532
You basically go to Canyonlands (north of Moab, UT) and follow the road about 22 miles (or 30 minutes) into Canyonlands Park until you see the sign for Dead Horse Point State Park.
Take a left on that road until you reach the parking lot. Hop out and wander around until you get to the ledges where it looks like you’re standing over the Grand Canyon.
Sunrise shoot: The east side is best
Sunset shoot: The west side is best
This is a state park and you cannot enter with the National Parks pass. It is only about $20 to get in. Bring cash!
Cactus & Tropicals
There are two locations:
12252 Draper Gate Dr, Draper, UT 84020
2735 S 2000 E, Salt Lake City, UT 84109
It costs $50 to do a shoot here if it’s a paid shoot. Be wary of the customers and avoid them so you don’t get them in your photos!
