Have you ever thought about starting a blog but didn’t know how? Blogs are a great and easy way to gain traction on your website and grow your business! They draw the user in to make them want to know more about you and your content. Today I’m going to teach you 5 easy ways you can start writing your own blog posts and build your brand!
Or feel free to check out the free guide I created with 20 blog ideas for your photoshoots this year to get you started!
1. Passion
The first part in starting a blog is having passion! I’ve talked about this in another blog post, but it’s so important! Have you ever talked to someone about their passions? It’s fascinating! You are drawn in because you can tell that they care about the topic. Their personal stories allow you to connect with them and want to know more.
Contrast this to someone who doesn’t have passion. You wouldn’t be as engaged in what they have to say! It’d be like attending a last class of the day lecture where you can tell that the teacher doesn’t want to be there either. Lack of passion makes you not want to care!
Readers can tell when you care about the content! Ask yourself when you start writing a blog post, “Am I writing just to do it, or am I writing because I want to share something meaningful to me?” Your answer will help you know how you can refocus to create more meaningful content.
Some blogs may be harder than others to write. This doesn’t mean you lack passion, or don’t care. When this happens, take a break and think about why that blog means something to you and what insights you have to share! After your break, you’ll have a clearer mind. It helps, believe me!
2. Be Yourself
There’s a reason readers enjoy reading your blogs. It’s because it comes from you! It’s good to gain inspiration from other bloggers’ writing style, but you must stay true to YOU. Only you can provide insight from your perspective.
Think of your favorite blogger or YouTuber. You watch them because they produce content that showcases their specific personality, skills, and opinions. They have a specific brand that you love because of who they are.
When you are yourself, you are creating your brand (how your readers will view you and your business) just like these YouTubers have done. The more consistent you are with being yourself, the more reliable your brand becomes. Your readers will come to your blog to gain information because it comes from you! Being you is the greatest thing you can do!
3. Keywords + SEO
If you want people to read your blog and visit your site, this part is essential! Keywords are simply what internet users are looking up. They become the focus of your blog post.
The reason for this is SEO: search engine optimization. SEO is the focus on making sure your content is visible to others. If your blog contains the keywords that people are searching for, it will boost your post’s ranking on Google, Pinterest, and other places!
I’ve used this example in our SEO basics blog post, but I think it helps with understanding keywords: If someone wants to know the best locations for bridals in Utah, they may look up just that: “Best Locations for Bridals in Utah.” These become your keywords. If you know the best locations, this would be a great opportunity for you to create a blog post.
If you are needing keyword ideas/writing prompts, use the autofill feature on Pinterest to find out popular searches. You will now have some new ideas to write about that people actually are looking for!
4. Aesthetically Appealing
Readers like content that’s pleasing to the eye. When someone clicks the link to your blog, and they find it’s straight block text, they will click out of your blog. To solve this problem, break up long paragraphs into smaller ones.
Having pictures that relate to the content will help break up the text as well. It’ll help the viewer stay focused and engaged!
Another thing to consider is that most viewers have looked up something specific and want the answer on how to do it. When you can present your content concisely, the viewers will be more likely to stay.
The use of subheadings will help your reader know the goal of each section and how it ties back to the overall purpose of the post. They’ll be able to find what they are searching for much more quickly with this aid.
5. Share Your Content
After you have published your blog, you must share it! Post bits and pieces of the blog to your social media platforms. Doing this will increase the visibility of your post. Include a link for viewers to read more that will bring them directly to the blog. Viewers can also share your content, again increasing visibility! You’ll only increase the chances of having your blog be seen if you share it!
These 5 things are a great to start writing your blog. Finding your writing style can take time, but when you get there it’ll be great! You’ll be a professional blogger in no time!
